1 day agoUmpire admits he forgot the count during bizarre Red Sox sequence
Red Sox fans have a legitimate complaint about a missed strikeout call during a game against the Astros.
On a 3-2 pitch, Miller threw a slider that was several inches below the strike zone. Perdomo laid off the pitch, but the home plate umpire called it a strike for the third and final out. A stunned Perdomo dropped his bat and raised his arms above his head as the Americans began celebrating.
Except, home plate umpire Mark Wegner blew the call, something that became a common theme throughout the game, and called it strike two instead. The pitch was so far out of the zone that Varsho (rightly) assumed he had been issued a free pass and started to take off his elbow guard. To the surprise of almost everyone, Wegner made a VERY delayed strike call, and everything changed from there.
