Potholes: What are they and why are they dangerous?
There are currently more than one million potholes in the UK, with an average of six potholes per mile on council-controlled roads in England and Wales.
Motorists are now twice as likely to break down as a result of repeated wear caused by potholes compared to 17 years ago.
Poor weather conditions, such as heavy rain, worsen existing potholes and delay essential road repairs. [ more ]
