Ubuntu 26.04 and Fedora 44 both use GNOME, are free, and suit most users, but Ubuntu emphasizes long-term support and familiar consistency.

Ubuntu 26.04, releasing in April, is Wayland-only with GNOME 50 and adds Rust-based memory-safe components and enhanced security features.

Ubuntu 26.04 LTS will replace Totem with Showtime and GNOME System Monitor with Resources to provide a more consistent, accessible GNOME experience.
