I told our guys before the game that we can't put ourselves in a position where we are going to sit here and pick our opponent: "Let's do this, to avoid this." We are Canada. In the end, we want to just improve our game. The second you start saying, "We have to score this many goals, or avoid this opponent," it is just a recipe for disaster. For us, it was just about getting better. And we have. To me, we just wanted to avoid the qualification game. Get the extra day of rest, let's see where the chips fall, and go play the games. I think the guys have done that. It has been a pleasure to coach them for the last three games.
France's Pierre Crinon, who fought Canada's Tom Wilson at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, was suspended Monday by the French ice hockey federation. Crinon will not play in the qualification round Tuesday against Germany after the federation said the defenseman's actions following the fight were against its values. He also would not play if France unexpectedly advances. Crinon and Wilson fought with seven minutes left in Canada's 10-2 rout of France on Sunday.

Per a video from the Sound of Hockey, Duhaime, while on the Capitals bench, caught Jacob Melanson with his stick as the Kraken forward skated by on the ice with 7:10 remaining in the second period. The play was commented on by the Kraken telecast, "Melanson is clipped by a stick, an accidental stick." The two then later settled the score, dropping the gloves with 1:10 seconds remaining in the third period. Melanson won the fight, earning the takedown.
During a second-period scrum near the net, Wilson showed McDavid just how sandpapery he'll be in the international tournament, cross-checking the superstar from behind twice. The crafty Oilers' captain didn't appreciate that much, so he skated backwards just a tad and then donkey-kicked Wilson directly in the family jewels with his left skate. Wilson doubled over in pain as the backwards kick connected with his full taint, sending him back to the Capitals bench in considerable pain.
