Gretzky, 64, told Variety in an interview about his new deal that he's well aware TNT's NHL coverage has big shoes to fill. "Listen, we are not trying to reinvent the wheel," he said. "We are largely riding the coattails of what those guys on 'Inside the NBA' have done so phenomenally. They know the game, but they are positive, and their personalities come through, even if they don't always agree."
The NHL released its 2025-26 national broadcast schedule for the United States on Wednesday, and the Capitals top the list with 18 games on on the calendar. Washington will start its season on TNT, featuring as the network's first game of the campaign against the Boston Bruins on October 8 at 7:30 pm. Eight Capitals games will air on TNT, four will air on ESPN, three will air on ABC, and three will air on ESPN+ and Hulu.
