San Jose State University plans to purchase a former hotel tower to convert into student housing in downtown San Jose.
The university will house 700 to 800 students in the tower starting in fall 2024.
SJSU aims to exercise its option to become the permanent owner of the tower by December 2025.

San Jose State University and Throckmorton Partners have reached a $113 million deal to house SJSU students in a tower of the Signia Hotel in downtown San Jose.
Throckmorton Partners bought the southern tower of the hotel for slightly more than $73 million and will lease it to SJSU.
The housing complex is expected to accommodate 700 students and SJSU has the option to buy the tower in two years.
