London boroughs expect to overspend budgets by 600m as homelessness rises
London's borough councils are expected to overspend on their original budget plans by a total of 600m, with the increase due to fast-rising spending to tackle the capital's homelessness crisis.
One in 50 Londoners is homeless and living in temporary accommodation arranged by their local borough.
The overspend is causing financial strain on borough councils, who are also facing demands on social care services and insufficient funding from the government. [ more ]
