Mets will not implement a six-man rotation despite early season performance and busy schedule.
Several teams have experimented with a six-man rotation over the years, and it's virtually a requirement for the Dodgers thanks to the presence of Shohei Ohtani and his unique needs as a two-way player. It's become increasingly common for teams aside from the one that employs Ohtani, however. MLB.com's Mike Petriello wrote prior to the 2025 campaign that starts on five days of rest have become more common than the traditional four days of rest associated with a standard five-man rotation.
There were definitely plenty of fireworks in this most recent showdown between the Miami Marlins and the New York Mets. Pete Alonso continued his Marlin killing ways. Juan Soto continued being Juan Soto. Marlins manager Clayton McCullough continued to make puzzling pitching moves. Jakob Marsee continued to look like a star in the making. Agustin Ramirez continued to look like a guy that really, really shouldn't play catcher. In other words, plenty of potential storylines.
Brandon Sproat is making it nearly impossible for the Mets to keep him down in the minors for much longer. The 24-year-old has hit his stride with Triple-A Syracuse after a bobble upon his promotion from Double-A Binghamton. He went six innings on Tuesday night, allowing just one run on two hits with eight strikeouts. Over his last nine starts (48.1 innings pitched), he has a 2.05 ERA with 57 strikeouts and a 0.850 WHIP.
