Dick's Sporting Goods closes its Sunrise Mall location April 4 as Amazon plans to build a 24/7 warehouse on the property.
The building where the retail-rental costume store in San Jose is located has been sold, and owner Kathy Bell has until the end of February to liquidate everything. While the eviction came as a shock, Bell said she's been dealing with personal health issues, making it nearly impossible to relocate the business again. The closure will force her into retirement. "I knew the building was up for sale and we were preparing for it, but we thought it would take a long time," the business' 71-year-old owner told San José Spotlight. "I can't do another move."
After nearly 50 years, the Berkeley Hat Company is closing. The business, founded in 1976 by Carol Lipnick and her late husband, Ed Dougherty, has been a fixture of Telegraph Avenue since 1980, and has supplied hats to countless residents, musicians, actors, athletes, Burners, and party-goers. The store's motto: We top em all. Dougherty passed away eight years ago, but Lipnick still works six days a week, and is now ready for a new adventure, she said.
Almost nine years after launching her womenswear brand Cefinn following Brexit, the designer Samantha Cameron has announced she will be winding down future operations in the coming months. The wife of the former prime minister David Cameron cited turbulence in the fashion wholesale factor, ongoing cost pressures and international trading restrictions. It had become increasingly difficult to achieve the level of growth needed to reach a profitable position, she said in a statement.
