Dozens of local communities, states, and individuals are suing major oil and gas companies and their trade associations over rising climate costs and for allegedly lying to consumers about climate change risks and solutions. At the same time, some states are enacting or considering laws modeled after the federal Superfund program that would impose retroactive liability on large fossil fuel producers and levy a one-time charge on them to help fund climate adaptation and resiliency measures.

Republican elected officials in Mississippi, New Hampshire, Tennessee and beyond have fought proposed facilities in their states. New Hampshire Gov. Kelly Ayotte (R) recently celebrated DHS striking its plans for an ICE facility that triggered public outcry in suburban Merrimack. She thanked DHS Secretary Kristi Noem for 'hearing the concerns' of residents.

What Senator Schumer is suggesting is that we do the dumbest thing possible that won't work. Stupid should hurt more. Senator Schumer says we should just extend the status quo for a year. What does that mean? That means that we would have to take $35 billion of taxpayer money and give it directly to the health insurance companies without any commitment of lowering premiums.

They wore the uniform, they kept their promises to us. It's time we keep our promises to them.
