Gov. Kathy Hochul signs 'Clean Slate' law, sealing criminal records of previously convicted New Yorkers

The "Clean State Act" in New York allows convicted criminals to have their records sealed if they remain out of trouble for a certain number of years.
Felony records will be sealed after 8 years, while misdemeanor records will be sealed after 3 years.
The law excludes sex crimes, most Class A felonies, and class A felonies for drug possession from being eligible for record sealing. [ more ]
