The US government has placed detained immigrants in solitary confinement over 14,000 times in the last five years, with an average duration almost twice the UN's recommended threshold for torture.
The report highlights cases of extreme physical, verbal, and sexual abuse of immigrants held in solitary cells, and a growing proportion of detainees are being held in private prison facilities with little accountability. [ more ]
