The Democratic Party's unity against Trump masks underlying ideological divisions that are resurfacing in primary challenges.
Texas' GOP Senate primary is centered around the question of which Republican candidate is most aligned with President Trump. Sen. John Cornyn was elected in 2002, which his opponents say makes him a conservative from a different time. Although Cornyn often points out that he consistently votes with Trump. Ken Paxton, Texas' attorney general for the past decade, is Cornyn's most formidable opponent.
The Supreme Court, in a 6-3 opinion authored by Chief Justice John Roberts, struck down most of Trump's tariffs on Friday, ruling that the law he was invoking could not be used for such a purpose. Trump had been claiming that the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act gave him the emergency power to set tariffs on a whim, without the need for investigative findings or durational limits, for any particular reason that struck his fancy.
