The National: First Two Pages of Frankenstein review still feeling blue

Twenty-four years and nine albums into their career, the National are still examining their sadness. The New York-based band have recently pursued solo projects, with singer Matt Berninger releasing an album in 2021 and guitarist Aaron Dessner working with Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, but on their latest effort the group return to produce a record that will satisfy longtime fans.

First Two Pages of Frankenstein review: The National offer a gentle reprisal of midlife melancholy

Ohio band's ninth studio album again features several guests including Taylor Swift and Phoebe Bridgers
There's so much emphasis on celebrating both youth and escape in rock, that a band who dares to ask searching questions about more mundane matters stands out.For over 20 years, Matt Berninger has written perceptively about let-downs and disappointments, about quiet triumphs and love against the odds.

The Indie-Rock Trio boygenius Returns, Confident and Connected

A streak of conspiratorial glee runs through The Record, the full-length debut album by boygenius. It's a bad idea and I'm all about it, Julien Baker announces in $20, the album's brashest rocker, which leaps around with hard-strummed, odd-meter guitar riffs.Baker goes on to boast, In another life we were arsonists.

boygenius Provoke, Endear, and Devastate on Spectacular Debut Album the record: Review

It's been over four years since Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus teamed up to release the boygenius EP, coming together like singer-songwriter Voltron and leaving an indelible imprint on the indie rock canon.Since then, boygenius have lived on as more of an idea than an entity, a brief-but-beautiful stopover in the careers of three young women.

Daisy Jones & the Six: How the Cast Became a Real Rock Band

When you watch Prime Video's Daisy Jones & the Six, it's easy to get whisked away into the world of 1970s rock and roll, and a huge part of that is that the actors cast to play the titular band actually came together as a band, learning every song and playing them all live."I think after we'd essentially been rehearsing for like a year, after our last stint in band rehearsal, we all kind of got to a point where we were going, 'You know, I think we got there,'" star Riley Keough tells Consequence with a laugh.

On Her Biggest Tour Yet, SZA Makes Small Feelings Huge

SZA's performance at Madison Square Garden Saturday night was vigorous, confident, theatrical and intimate the sort of show that manages the rare trick of feeling both vibrantly communicative and also protectively insular. But one particular five-song stretch encapsulated the range that has made SZA whose second studio album, SOS, has spent 10 weeks atop the Billboard album chart one of the most au courant performers of this era, a beacon for the vulnerable, the stubborn, the besieged and the broken.

Jack Harlow Goes Deep on Race and Rap, and 8 More New Songs

On his third major label album, Jackman, Jack Harlow leans away from the lithe boasts that shaped Come Home the Kids Miss You, his 2022 breakthrough LP.Instead, he pivots to issues specifically, on the opening track Common Ground, the issue of whiteness. It's a fleet, acute look at the ways white participants in hip-hop cloak themselves, to be present but not quite seen (or maybe vice versa): Reciting rap lyrics about murder and cash profit/Get to feel like a thug but don't have to act on it.

This 1 Addictive Song Is In Every 'Daisy Jones & The Six' Episode

Taylor Jenkins Reid's Daisy Jones & The Six has finally made the leap from page to screen, and with it comes the actualization of the titular band's most impactful album: Aurora.(It's basically their Rumours.)Reid actually included lyrics for the fictional band's song in her 2019 novel - but as she told Rolling Stone, she's "not a musician," per se.

Why Amazon's Daisy Jones and the Six is missing that star quality

There's a moment about halfway through Daisy Jones & the Six, Amazon's sprawling adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid's bestselling book, in which the show achieves the emotional jolt it so often mimes. It's the mid-1970s, and the Six, a combustible rock band loosely inspired by Fleetwood Mac, are performing at a music festival in Hawaii; Daisy Jones (Riley Keough), the ethereal Stevie Nicksian singer-songwriter who helped deliver the band's first hit, is supposed to join them four songs in.

Samia: the singer-songwriter with violent hooks, famous parents and a sensational second album

From Nashville, US Recommended if you like Blake Mills, Julia Jacklin, Phoebe Bridgers Up next New album Honey released 27 January via Grand Jury Honey, the rich, raw second album by Samia, opens with an explosion of mild-mannered rage.Over organ and shimmering autoharp, the Nashville-based songwriter sings in a placid deadpan: I hope you marry the girl from your home town / And I'll fucking kill her / And I'll fucking freak out.

I need humanity, SZA sings in Ghost in the Machine, a largely computerized track from her new album, SOS.Even the voices behind her sound quantized.Phoebe Bridgers, breathily multitracked, arrives midway through the song  singing about liminal spaces like an airport bar or hotel lobby  but their organic, analog presence can't deny what numbers can deliver.
