Adapted from Rosenkrantz' book of the same name, published in 2022, the film hinges on a single conversation in December 1974, as Hujar recounts, almost pedantically, everything he did the previous day. Drawn from a long-lost tape, the monologue turns errands, meals and irritations into a portrait of an artist's inner life. It trades plot for precision, offering instead a study of friendship, attention and the conditions of making work in 1970s New York.

I didn't do any research, so the thing that was really surprising was maybe a month later when I realized she was 89 years old and then I was DMing her. But it was a casual back and forth. She's super with it, and we've become very close in a very touching way - in a way that I think reflects something about her relationship with Peter, actually.

"We live in a world saturated with photographic images, so it's never been more important to think through the history of the medium and its rich legacies in the present," says Hilary Floe, the curator of a major survey of the US photographer Lee Miller at Tate Britain (until 15 February 2026). The Miller show has received rave reviews and is joined by several marquee photography exhibitions at commercial galleries around the city, as well as at both Frieze art fairs.
