Recently I wrote about one of the great missions of the U.S. Air Force called Operation Chowhound.This lifesaving mission during World War II dropped food into the Netherlands to stop a famine.Sixty years later there was a chance meeting between a U.S. Air Force pilot of Operation Chowhound, Robert Smith, and a man from the Netherlands who received this precious food.

Lunar New Year celebrations kicked off over the weekend in Chicago, but Sunday's events were marred by news of a gunman killing 10 people and wounding 10 others Saturday night at a Los Angeles-area Lunar New Year celebration.For many, this year was supposed to be a return to normalcy after restrictions and lockdowns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of the celebration in 2021 and a limited event last year.

The La Pietà statue, which depicts Mary cradling Jesus' body on her lap after the crucifixion, was being moved Tuesday morning after the city issued a permit earlier this month for its removal from St. Adalbert Church, a historic parish in Pilsen.The move comes after months of protests from neighbors, parishioners and other advocates who say the statue is a beloved relic of the church's history.

BANGOR, Maine (AP) - Two more people have filed lawsuits alleging sexual abuse by a Roman Catholic clergy member and a nun - both deceased - raising the number to over a dozen since Maine loosened the statute of limitations last year.One of the plaintiffs contended he was sexually abused by a priest and was spanked by a nun who interrupted one of the encounters in Bangor, while another said that a nun regularly spanked boys' bare bottoms in class, and that she sexually abused him in private, according to the lawsuits.
