This decision formally ends the SAVE injunction that has forced over 7 million SAVE borrowers into economic limbo-pushing meaningful debt relief and affordable monthly payments out of reach. They added that they're calling on the department to implement the benefits of the SAVE plan and administer loan cancellation for borrowers on the SAVE Plan who are eligible for such relief immediately.

Under the SAVE plan, a borrower's monthly payment would be calculated based on income and family size and could be set as low as $0 per month for the lowest-earning borrowers.

Paul Calandra announced that he has put Peel District School Board under supervision and is giving the York Catholic District School Board two weeks to make a case for avoiding the same fate.

"Affordability isn't about keeping costs down, it's about keeping people in their homes," Chow said. "When we invest in keeping people housed, we're making Toronto more affordable for everyone and we're preventing the far greater cost of homelessness. We're making sure that one bad month or one medical emergency or layoff doesn't destroy the entire family," she added.
