Hot on the tail of Amazon's Kindle Scribe Colorosoft, TCL is introducing its own take on a distraction-free note-taking and reading device. Unlike the new Scribe, however, it doesn't use E Ink. The TCL Note A1 NXTPAPER is the company's latest device to use NXTPAPER, TCL's custom paper-like LCD screen, which offers some of the qualities of E Ink without the limitations.
The 14.3-inch TCL NXTPaper has a 2.4K resolution display (2400 x 1600p) with a paper-like texture. It weighs only 1.67 pounds and is 0.27 inches thick. Designed to be used in any lighting environment and to reduce eye strain, the screen has anti-glare coating, DC dimming, and blue light reduction with (optional) automatic brightness adjustments. As mentioned, the NXTPaper button on the side of the tablet lets you seamlessly switch between the three modes: Regular, Color, and Ink.
Instead, Nxtpaper is a paper-like display that helps reduce eye strain and improves readability over traditional screens. The display also reduces blue light, doesn't have a conventional backlight, and eliminates flickering, making it easy on the eyes while displaying the different types of content you'd expect from a flagship tablet or smartphone. The lack of a backlight and the display's frosted finish reduce glare and reflections, contributing to better energy efficiency and longer battery life.
