Athletics beat the Red Sox convincingly, and the Marlins survived a dramatic ninth-inning rally to narrowly avoid a blown six-run lead.
Brooks Baldwin also drove in a run as part of a three-run inning for Chicago, which trailed 3-1 entering the ninth. The rally snapped a string of 205 consecutive losses for the White Sox when trailing after eight innings. The White Sox won their fourth game in a row and their fifth straight against the Twins, who will try to avoid a four-game sweep Thursday.
Zuber gave up a leadoff double in the ninth to Ozuna, who was replaced by pinch-runner White. After Albies popped out and Nacho Alvarez Jr. walked, Josh Simpson replaced Zuber. Vidal Bruján hit the next pitch to left field for a double that drove in White and Baldwin followed with a two-run single. Ronald Acuña Jr. drew a bases-loaded walk, White hit a two-run single and Albies capped Atlanta's nine-run ninth with a three-run homer.
Chicago led 4-0 after seven innings and came within four outs of recording its third straight shutout. The Royals rallied for five runs and eight hits against the White Sox relief corps over the last two innings. Kansas City's Carlos Estevez struck out two in a perfect bottom of the ninth for his 35th save in 41 chances. Martin Perez pitched seven shutout innings and Colson Montgomery homered in his fourth straight game for Chicago.
