The team now sits in second place in the AFC East, exactly where they should be. Quarterback Drake Maye had the best game of his early professional career in only his 14th start. Maye ripped an 82.6 percent completion rate with two touchdowns passing, another on the ground, and no interceptions. Anything close to those numbers the rest of the season, and he'll have Vrabel's 2025 Patriots knocking on the playoffs door by week 17.
Outside linebacker Khalil Mack's left elbow injury, which left him sidelined and in a sling for much of the Los Angeles Chargers' Week 2 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, isn't season-ending, a source confirmed to ESPN. NFL Network was the first to report the news. Mack attempted a tackle in the first quarter, but his left hand got caught between Chargers linebacker Troy Dye and Raiders wide receiver Tre Tucker, turning his elbow into an awkward position.
The San Francisco 49ers moved to 2-0 after defeating the New Orleans Saints 26-21 on the road. New Orleans had a chance at taking the lead late, regaining possession with 2:40 left in the fourth quarter. However, while facing a fourth-and-1 on their own 42-yard-line, Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler was sacked, clinching the 49ers victory. Starting in place of Brock Purdy, San Francisco quarterback Mac Jones had 279 passing yards with three touchdowns.
