My job is to make sure the best song lands in the right place in the show. Within the budget that we have at hand (laughter), you know, that's another aspect that I think a lot of people don't think about. In other words, we're not just sitting back and staring at the sky and pulling song ideas out. We actually have to make sure that we can afford certain ideas, and we actually have to make sure that we can get them cleared.

The 1980s-set Netflix series Stranger Things, returning this week for Season 5, has always had a real knack for choosing songs of the era and exploding their popularity. The most notable example of this was Season 4's epic use of Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill," but every season has featured some unexpected yet welcome needle drops, including The Clash's "Should I Stay or Should I Go," The Police's "Every Breath You Take," and Metallica's "Master of Puppets."

No more 'Unc' rock at the end of Alien: Earth episodes please. Fucking monster energy drink bullshit.
