Miles from treatment and pregnant: How women in maternity care deserts are coping as health care options dwindle
Maternity care deserts, areas without access to obstetric care, are a major issue in Texas and across the US.
Over one-third of counties in the US are considered maternity care deserts, and in Texas, 46.5% of counties lack access to obstetric care.
Rural areas are particularly affected, with 28.4% of women living more than 30 minutes from a birthing hospital. [ more ]
