The third Wednesday or Thursday evening of each month, comic book shop Books with Pictures ( 1401 SE Division St) hosts this open-invite book club devoted to a wide variety of graphic novels-from the Bitter Root series, about a family of sympathetic monster hunters during the Harlem Renaissance, to an illustrated retelling of the 1872 queer vampire murder mystery Carmilla. Sometimes artists and writers join to talk about their latest work.

Portland Book Festival: A day stretching from comedy to self-discovery * Oregon ArtsWatch

It was the perfect day for a festival when Literary Arts' 2025 Portland Book Festival took over the downtown Park Blocks on Saturday. The sun shone brightly through the orange November leaves, and not a drop of rain fell while excited book-lovers lined up early all the way around the Portland Art Museum to pick up their wristbands. Despite the crowds at the festival's first-ever sold-out year, many weren't worried about the busy chaos and instead leaned into the joyful mood.
