A small aircraft carrying two people crashed Thursday afternoon on Catalina Island, fire officials said. The plane, which was en route to the island, crashed on landing around 12:20 p.m. in Avalon in a rugged, not easily accessible area.

On Tuesday morning, Los Angeles World Airports board members are expected to vote on whether to increase the access fees for private transportation companies that ferry travelers to and from Los Angeles International Airport, which includes ride app companies such as Uber and Lyft, along with taxi and limousine companies. The thinking, according to airport officials, is to encourage riders to use the yet-to-open Automated People Mover, also known as Skylink, and to reduce vehicle traffic around the terminals.

The airspace over Los Angeles is among the most congested in the world, but the Hollywood Burbank Airport is uniquely situated, creating extremely tight parameters around the midsize airport.

It shows that New Jersey continues to earn its reputation as the travel wasteland of the East Coast, whereas surprise! California is doing pretty dang good. Last year, 248 million U.S. passengers ran up against flight disruptions, according to AirHelp.
