Arizona remained firmly atop The Associated Press Top 25 men's college basketball poll for a ninth consecutive week Monday, while Houston jumped back into the top 5 and Kentucky returned to the rankings for the first time since December. Notre Dame transfer quarterback Kenny Minchey has flipped his commitment from Nebraska to Kentucky, he told ESPN on Monday. One day after Minchey announced his commitment to the Cornhuskers, the redshirt sophomore reversed course and signed to play for new head coach Will Stein and the Wildcats. The 6-foot-2, 208-pound passer from Hendersonville, Tenn., will join the SEC program with two more years of eligibility. Minchey officially entered the transfer portal on Jan. 2 and is the No. 9 player in ESPN's transfer quarterback rankings.
Kentucky dropped out of these Power Rankings back on Dec. 4, following a 5-3 start. A day later, the Wildcats lost by 35 points to Gonzaga in Nashville, and it looked like the wheels were falling off. Less than three weeks later, Mark Pope's team returns to the mix. Kentucky has won four straight games, all by double-figures, including 12-point victories over Indiana and St. John's.
Calzada, who turns 25 on Saturday, said he sent the video to someone who had apparently criticized his play this season. In the video, Calzada tells the fan, "Hey, what you need to do, Garrett, is your ass needs to stop hatin' and go get you some money. But since you ain't got nothing, you go ahead and you can count mine." "Let's count," Calzada said, as he fanned the $100 bills. "Don't lose count, Garrett," Calzada continued. "Straight hundreds."
"I got great feedback from NBA teams, but the consensus was to come back to school and have a great year. I want to try and up my stock even more, and put myself in a position to win a national championship with all the possible accolades that come with that."
