Last weekend we asked if the Knicks should trade power forward Obi Toppin this summer.The thinking behind trading Obi is this: He's going into the final year of his rookie deal.He'll probably be too expensive to re-sign, and he doesn't have a big enough role on this team while Julius Randle is still on the roster.

Pace and space.That's the name of the game in today's NBA.Every team should be looking for options that help them improve shooting while also being able to run the floor.This is where the idea of Kyle Kuzma joining the New York Knicks is incredibly appealing.I want to preface this by saying, I'm not entirely sure how the financials would work, but this is more of a fun exercise (let me fantasize) Kyle Kuzma has a $13 million player option going into next season that he will most certainly decline.

While Jalen Brunson has become the most reliable basketball player in New York, that wasn't always the case.Less than a year ago, there were people around the league who believed that the Knicks had overpaid for the young floor general and questioned just how good Brunson could be.It's not like pundits and analysts thought that he was bad, but given his short stature, defensive limitations, and lack of experience as the go-to guy, many thought that his ceiling and potential were somewhat limited.

Quentin Grimes had a lovely summer in 2022.He dominated at Summer League, averaging 22.6 points in five games.And he escaped the Donovan Mitchell trade-a-palooza unscathed.The Tik Tok star (if having almost 150,000 followers qualifies someone as such) and 25th pick of the 2021 draft had distinguished himself as a player the New York Knicks were committed to developing.

To the outside world, meaning those NBA fans who watch the game, including teams outside of their own, the Knicks look legitimate.The team is finally out of the headlines for institutional ineptitude, terrible trades, and whiffed draft picks.Instead, the Knicks have reached the playoffs for the second time in three seasons under head coach Tom Thibodeau.

For the first time since 2016, the New York Knicks won't have a draft pick in the annual NBA Draft scheduled to take place on June 22 inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY of all places.If you're wondering why, the reason for that is very simple although it goes all the way across the globe as it's related to a little big fella from the Eastern region of Europe: Kristaps Porzingis.

We saw the best of Julius Randle, we saw the worst of Julius Randle.Charitably, we begin on the sunny side of the 2022-23 campaign.Once again, Julius led the New York Knicks in scoring (25 ppg) and rebounds (10 rpg) yet again.He placed second on the team for assists (4.1), behind only point guard Jalen Brunson.

When the New York Knicks signed center Isaiah Hartenstein to a two-year $16 million contract in the offseason, there was not much buzz around it.The 24-year-old was coming off a season on the Los Angeles Clippers that saw him average 8.3 points and 4.9 rebounds in 17.9 minutes as the backup center.He was going to be joining his fifth team in his young career.

Julius Randle had another incredible regular season before fading in the playoffs.Many fans and NBA pundits are questioning his role on the team moving forward.The P&T staff weighs in... Joe Flynn: Yes.Randle defenders will point to his ankle issues and try to explain away his poor play and attitude issues in the playoffs, but the truth is that Randle's those issues were starting to come to the forefront before the original ankle injury.

With the Dallas Mavericks getting the 10th pick in last night's NBA Draft lottery, the New York Knicks currently do not have a pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.The Knicks traded their own first-round pick to Portland as part of the Josh Hart trade but could have gotten the Mavericks' pick if it fell outside of the top 10.

The New York Knicks' loss to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Semifinals was devasting for the New York fanbase.What really stood out like a sore thumb was the performance from Julius Randle, who was supposed to be their main offensive option instead of Jalen Brunson.His average of 16 points per game in the playoffs this year was horrendous but what really did it was his choke-job in the must-win Game 6.

The first two rounds of the NBA playoffs are complete.It's been one of the best and most entertaining postseasons I can recall, though in fairness I've been watching only since 1978.The conference finals are:


Eastern Conference: 8 seed Miami Heat vs. 2 seed Boston Celtics
Western Conference: 7 seed Los Angeles Lakers vs. 1 seed Denver Nuggets


Personally, I love these matchups.

The Knicks are coming off their best season since 2012 and their second-best season since the turn of the century, so it feels like an odd time to question whether or not they should fire their coach, but if this team wants to take the next step towards being a championship contender, it might be the right call.

Jimmy Butler scored 24 points, Bam Adebayo added 23 and the Miami Heat are headed back to the Eastern Conference finals after topping the New York Knicks 96-92 on Friday night.Max Strus scored 14 points and Kyle Lowry had 11 points and nine assists for the eighth-seeded Heat, who won the semi-final series 4-2 to go to the conference finals for the 10th time overall and the third time in the last four years.
