The ban on Palestine Action, the first under the Terrorism Act for a direct action group, was justified by Yvette Cooper as a response to a history of unacceptable criminal damage and a threat to national security.
The Police Benevolent Association (PBA) stated that the CCRB's practice of publishing reports of unsubstantiated complaints against officers stigmatizes them and puts their safety at risk. PBA President Patrick Hendry emphasized that these baseless allegations can destroy a cop's career and life outside of work, yet the CCRB continues to make them public.
"What's most problematic is that the extraordinary has become ordinary. It's just a matter of course now that when you issue an opinion that some people don't like, you're going to get threats, you're going to get death threats, and that is obviously problematic on many levels."
