The San Jose Sharks could use a franchise-altering Draft.Four straight years out of the playoffs, the Sharks need some prospects to hit to get themselves back in the running.In the last 10 drafts, San Jose has only unearthed four NHL regulars, and two of them now play elsewhere, Mario Ferraro and Kevin Labanc, and Josh Norris of the Ottawa Senators and Timo Meier of the New Jersey Devils.

Winger Fabian Zetterlund is no Timo Meier, and that's OK.The Sharks acquired Zetterlund in February, part of a 13-piece trade that sent Meier, a 40-goal scorer, to the New Jersey Devils.While Zetterlund wasn't necessarily the centerpiece of the package San Jose acquired - top prospect Shakir Mukhamadullin and a 2023 first-round pick were - the 23-year-old was enjoying a solid rookie campaign with the Devils at the time of the trade, with six goals and 14 assists in 45 games.

Despite leading the Washington Capitals to its worst full, 82-game season in 16 years, Peter Laviolette may soon have his next job fewer than two months after mutually parting with the team.Elliotte Friedman is reporting that "a lot of people are beginning to lean Peter Laviolette" in regard to the New York Rangers' head coaching vacancy.

Toronto Maple Leafs assistant coach Spencer Carbery appears to be a hot commodity on the coaching market.The Washington Capitals have reportedly already asked permission to interview him for a head coaching position, and he's seemingly already had an interview with the Anaheim Ducks.Now, it looks like the New York Rangers are considering Carbery's services.

Tom Wilson was announced as the Washington Capitals nominee for the 2023 King Clancy Trophy on Tuesday.The award is given to the player "who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community."The Capitals, in a tweet, said that Wilson "actively gives back to the community through two player programs as well as by being involved in additional initiatives throughout the season."

The New York Rangers and head coach Gerard Gallant have agreed to part ways, according to the New York Post's Larry Brooks.Gallant had spent the last two seasons behind the bench with the Rangers after three years with the Vegas Golden Knights, where he led VGK to a Stanley Cup Final appearance in their inaugural season.

Qualifying for the Stanley Cup Playoffs has become an expectation for the Carolina Hurricanes.This season, they once again matched that expectation with a great regular season.Unfortunately for the Canes, that great season came to an end in the Eastern Conference Final, as they were swept by the Florida Panthers.

It wasn't supposed to go this way.When the New York Rangers made trade deadline acquisitions of Vladimir Tarasenko and Patrick Kane, the expectation was that the team would overwhelm opponents on their way to a championship run.After two games of their first-round contest against the New Jersey Devils, it felt like that was going to be the case.

Kyle Palmieri scored two goals that made the difference, and Ilya Sorokin returned to doing Sorokin things as the Islanders banked two crucial points with a 5-1 regulation win over the division title-contending New Jersey Devils on Long Island.The two points restored the Islanders' three-point lead for the first wild card spot, and Florida's regulation loss in Ottawa meant their overall wild card cushion grew to six points.
