Political commentator Ivan Yates said his "golden rule" in his media training business endeavour is "client confidentiality".
Ivan Yates is an incorrigible notice box. The former government minister whose career is now under the spotlight likes little more than being at the centre of the stage in a storm. The former bookmaker and discharged bankrupt should never have been taken too seriously as a broadcaster. He is a pundit, posing as an independent commentator. Today, Yates is to politics what Eamon Dunphy was to football: a former player with a background in his chosen media field, morphed into a celebrity.
Fianna Fáil confirms Yates provided four hours of interview and debate training to Jim Gavin Housing Minister James Browne confirms he has also received media training from Yates Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan says "nothing improper" in Fianna Fáil retaining the services of broadcaster Coimisiún na Meán now wants answers from RTÉ and Newstalk on Yates's on-air activities
"Following disclosures in the Irish Independent (Saturday) that Ivan Yates provided training services to Fianna Fail candidate, Jim Gavin, during the recent Presidential election, we have taken the decision to end Ivan's role as co-host of Path To Power with immediate effect. "Neither Matt Cooper nor NK Productions were aware that Ivan was working on the campaign, and both believe that this information should have been shared with the audience of the podcast when the Presidential election was being discussed."
