Travelling for art can be incredibly virtuous and culturally rewarding, like collecting souvenirs for your eyes (and from the post card rail in the gift shop). Remembering to research what is on before I book flights is a lesson I learnt all too well after I missed the Metropolitan Museum's fashion exhibition in 2016 by one day. As a fashion obsessed 20 something, I did not take this well and have since improved my itinerary planning and exhibition calendar checking.

For example, renting a car may seem convenient, but in some cities, finding parking can be tricky. This is because some areas have "limited traffic zones," where driving is limited to authorized vehicles only. In my experience, Uber isn't widely available in many parts of Italy, either. And although a train between two cities can sound practical, it sometimes ends up taking much longer than expected. Sometimes, a flight can be quicker.

I've curated small-ship cruise itineraries for nearly 25 years. I've taken trips to some of the most remote places on the planet, including Papua New Guinea, Greenland, and Antarctica.
