A three-mile stretch of Highway 99 was closed for more than five hours Saturday after dense fog led to a massive vehicle pileup in Tulare County, about 40 miles north of Bakersfield. The California Highway Patrol said 59 vehicles were involved in the crash that occurred around 8 a.m. The highway reopened midafternoon. Several people sustained mild to moderate injuries and some were taken to a local hospital, according to CHP Visalia.
A big rig overturned this morning (Jan. 18) on northbound Highway 101, just south of Redwood City, after a collision that left the two drivers with minor injuries. One lane remained closed as of about 7 Monday night. CHP officers responded to the wreck near Marsh Road at about 10:50 a.m. and found the big rig on its side on the righthand shoulder.
A California Department of Transportation worker was injured late Wednesday morning when he was hit by a driver on Highway 17, authorities said. The incident happened around 11:45 a.m. north of Redwood Estates, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Ross Lee. Lee said a two-person inspection team from Caltrans headquarters in Sacramento was working on the right shoulder of northbound Highway 17 when a 2016 Jeep veered off the roadway and hit one of them.
The sudden closure derailed his career plans.
