The Supreme Court of Canada will hear an appeal from a coalition challenging the constitutionality of legislation that opens the door to major changes at Ontario Place. The urban park on the Toronto waterfront, opened in 1971, included a theatre that showed movies on a huge screen, children's play areas and several pavilions suspended above the water. The Ontario government plans to redevelop Ontario Place to include an elaborate spa operated by a private company.

A digital advertising display cannot be added to a Shropshire petrol station because it would "introduce a modern, visually assertive feature" into a "sensitive historic setting." Independent forecourt operator Motor Fuel Group (MFG) wants to modernise advertising equipment at the site on Lower Bar, Newport. The 2.5m-high illuminated display would be capable of displaying six advertising campaigns at a time, changing every 10 seconds.

In a corner of the sprawling grounds of Niamey's only museum a unique, open-air style arrangement in Niger's capital that doubles as a zoo imposing fossil replicas of long-extinct animals stand in a corrugated iron stall. On a recent late Friday afternoon, the Boubou Hama National Museum was busy with scores of excited children. They shrilled, delighted by the rubbery grunts of the hippos near the replicas, and the faint roars of the lions further up.
