After getting engaged in 2013, we started kicking around a wild idea: What if we moved back and revived the prohibition-era distillery his family had owned three generations back? The family business had been passed down for decades until it closed in 1919 due to prohibition. In particular, we had on our hearts Andy's dad, who died of cancer in 2010, but had always said, 'Don't move home unless you have a real good reason to.' This felt like it just might be that real good reason.

The question of how fashion is archived - what enters the museum; what is deemed worthy of preservation; whose clothes are considered culturally significant enough to outlast the bodies that wore them - has long sat uneasily at the centre of fashion history itself. While previous decades were dominated by the big-name distilleries, far more awards are going to craft distillers who have mastered the art of producing high-quality whiskeys, rums, gins, and more.

In this project, we turned to the philosophy of 'Daegang ()'. While often used in modern Korean to mean 'roughly' or 'in general,' the Chinese characters tell a deeper story: (Great) and (The Main Stay/Head-rope of a Net).

Her team's analysis of the residue samples contained beeswax, plant oils, animal fats, bitumen, and resins from coniferous trees such as pines and larches, as well as vanilla-scented coumarin (found in cinnamon and pea plants) and benzoic acid (common in fragrant resins and gums derived from trees and shrubs). The resulting fragrance combined a "strong pine-like woody scent of the confers," per Huber, mixed in with "a sweeter undertone of the beeswax" and "the strong smoky scent of the bitumen."

Green Irish Tweed opens with a lot of iris and violet, but it settles into a lovely ambergris. It's masculine and musky without being stuffy. It's fresh and spring-y without being reserved for warm months. The sillage is hefty, especially with that floral opening, so be careful.

Country of origin labeling became mandatory on all international products entering the United States in 2009. The goal was to ensure American consumers knew where the products they were buying came from, enabling shoppers to make informed buying decisions. The best woody colognes are a very broad umbrella. With notes including sandalwood, crisp cedarwood, resinous guaiac wood, coniferous, earthy oak, heady oud and trending (and fantastic) hinoki, it's a canopy out there, each with its own distinct aromatic profile. Most fragrances contain some wood note(s) in their scent pyramid, usually in the base or middle, as it adds depth, warmth and longevity, anchoring or grounding lighter top and heart notes.

Fulton & Roark's Calle Ocho extrait de parfum is our final pick here; it's perfect if you want something musky, warm, and woody with tonka bean kept firmly at the center. It opens with a rich, spiced kick of cinnamon and rum, then gets darker and smoother with bitter chocolate and a touch of jasmine before settling into a deep, resinous base of labdanum, tobacco leaf, tonka bean, sandalwood, and musk.
