To do so, we reviewed various sources, such as GunBroker.com, Small Arms Survey, and more to get estimates of global gun sales. Guns were ranked by estimated lifetime sales. The origin of each gun is the historical country of origin or where the weapon was first created. Different models of the same gun released in different years are included in the gun sales estimates.

Pump-action shotguns differ from many semi-automatic or autoloading shotguns. Pump-actions can reliably load varying types of ammunition, from heavy buckshot to lighter loads. They are a favorite of law enforcement and the military. Soldiers have used these shotguns in the U.S. military since WWI. In 2020, it is estimated Americans purchased nearly 2.4 million shotguns. Using a report from Gun Genius, which analyzed sales data from GunBroker.com, 24/7 Wall St. identified the 10 most popular pump-action shotguns in America.

Gun sales have declined significantly from peaks during the pandemic, with Americans purchasing only 15.3 million firearms in 2024, down from over 20 million in 2020.
