58 minutes agoInside Jim Jordan's quiet preparations for a GOP leadership void
Jordan is positioning himself for a potential leadership run amid uncertainty in House GOP leadership.
I predict that Representative Thomas Massie will go down as the WORST Republican Congressman in the long and fabled history of the United States Congress, even worse than Crazy Liz Chaney, Cryin' Adam Kinzinger, and Marjorie Traitor Brown (Remember, Green turns to Brown under stress!). They are all misfits and losers, but Massie, who is running against a great American Patriot in the Kentucky Primary, will hopefully lose BIG.
We need someone who has new ideas, new energy and a new perspective to be an advocate for our community. I'm not running against a person, I'm running against the problem, and the problem is the status quo.
There is no doubt that there is a swath of the American public that is a typically younger piece of the puzzle that is very skeptical of the American projection of power abroad. Younger Republicans tend to look more askance at it. They don't remember the Cold War. They don't think as highly of what America could do abroad.
"It'll guarantee the midterms," he told Republicans gathered in the ballroom of his golf course just outside Miami on Monday. "If you don't get it, big trouble." Trump insisted that building on strict national voter identification laws, banning mail ballots, and restricting transgender rights would secure Republican electoral success.
Affordability has been, understandably, the watchword for Democratic candidates over the last year. After downplaying inflation under Joe Biden, the party learned a brutal lesson when Donald Trump rode the cost-of-living crisis back to the White House in 2024. In 2025, Zohran Mamdani put affordability at the center of his own campaign and surged from the back of the pack to City Hall.
Rogers insisted he was a very progressive person who cares deeply about winning these elections, but my phrasing was not right. I will be more thoughtful! I really do promise. He added, I have great respect and admiration for Rep. Crockett, and I regret that my words suggested otherwise. I just want us to win and I will be better at finding ways to help.
In perhaps a vain attempt to prove themselves moderate, the Democratic lawmakers helped override Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper's vetoes. Voters responded with the kind of ballot-box fury that should serve as a lesson to other incumbents. It wasn't just a case that the incumbents lost. They were buried, with several of them getting trounced by margins of 40 points or more.
I have been harping on the idea that voters who do not want to choose between "a lesser of two evils" in November need to show up to vote in the primaries process. I hope to see record engagement all throughout the spring and summer, building toward the November midterm elections.
Wiener later told reporters that he wished he'd had time to describe his more nuanced position on Isreael and Gaza: He said he opposes any sale of US offensive weapons to Israel, opposed the invasion of Gaza, finds the Netanyahu Administration terrible, and supports a two-state solution. But the picture of him refusing to take a stand will linger throughout the campaign.
Pine Tree Results, a super PAC supporting Collins, raised another $5 million in the second half of the year, Axios has learned. The PAC will start the year with $10 million in cash on hand, according to a person familiar with the matter. Zoom in: Democrats view Maine as one of their top pickup opportunities, but the party is deeply divided. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has declared that Mills is the "best candidate" to defeat Collins.
"It has been baked in that the states are largely in charge of the election process, and that the federal government can set or override rules for that process if they wish, but it's very specific that that has to be done through Congress and not through lone executive action," said Justin Levitt, a constitutional and law of democracy scholar at Loyola Law School who was a non-partisan policy adviser for Democracy and Voting Rights during the Biden White House.
