Donte Johnson won a split decision against Cody Brundage in the first UFC broadcast on CBS, despite criticism for defensive fighting and lack of action.
Johnson immediately closed the distance top open the fight, but Dumas reacted smartly by changing levels and securing a single-leg takedown. Johnson, however, never stayed flat on his back: he remained composed, used the cage effectively, and worked his way back to his feet. Dumas stayed heavy on the leg, but Johnson defended well, landing short punches before reversing position. With Dumas' back to the cage, Johnson took control, briefly suplexing him to the mat.
"That was a big thing that came up. It actually came from DC [Daniel Cormier], there was a video of DC where he's like 'we don't back up, we don't back up.' And that's true, we came here to fight. Obviously you want to be calculated, but at the end of the day we did come here to scrap, we came here to fight. So that's where that 'don't back up' comes from."
