Spirit Airlines seeks federal bailout amid financial troubles, offering equity stake in exchange.
Cases can be useful and informative, but recognize that they aren't reality. The companies featured typically require that the case writer submit the case to them for approval. That introduces survivor bias-whoever is still around at the time of publication gets to dictate how the narrative is told. Another issue is that the companies selected and held up as exemplars are subject to the halo effect. This is the tendency to believe that because a company was successful, copying its practices will create success elsewhere.
American Airlines has started the process of compensating flight attendants after Winter Storm Fern, as tensions flare between the union and management. Over 9,000 of its flights were canceled, marking the largest weather-related disruption in its history, the airline said. A union for flight attendants said some crew were left "stranded in airport terminals and hotel lobbies with no accommodations."
A notice to pilots classified the area as "national defense airspace," and warned that deadly force may be used against aircraft violating the restriction, standard language for such designations. What they're saying: "All flights to and from El Paso are grounded, including commercial, cargo and general aviation," El Paso International Airport posted on Facebook early Wednesday. "Travelers should contact their airlines to get most up-to-date flight status information."

19,450 flights within, into, or out of US airports were canceled between Saturday and 7 a.m. ET on Monday, according to data from FlightAware. The majority of those, more than 11,000, occurred on Sunday. That made it the worst day for flight cancellations since the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Disruption continued on Monday, with 3,700 flights canceled as of 7 a.m. ET, per FlightAware. At that time, Boston Logan Airport appeared to be the worst affected, with 60% of its departing flights canceled.
