Intercity bus transport in Europe is characterized by a fragmented operator landscape, including a high number of small and medium-sized companies, alongside less standardized operational patterns and frequent dual-use vehicle profiles.
We're looking at all of our infrastructure to make sure that it can hold up in any condition, but especially when we're welcoming the world. We're actually getting out there and replicating what service would look like on some of those busier days.
The event features approximately 40 vehicles alongside a conference program addressing topics such as autonomous driving, on-demand transport and operational concepts, including a Sustainable Bus session on intercity bus electrification.
The new checks, part of the EU's new Entry/Exit System (EES), collect digital personal records of third country nationals travelling to the Schengen area and replace the manual stamping of passports.
"The resumption of train services suggests that exchanges of people and goods are gradually returning to normal. It also appears to send a message to the international community that China and North Korea are strengthening ties amid the current global situation."
While dozens of other countries have delivered fast, modern train networks, we are stuck with a skeletal system built largely on slow, 19th-century alignments. Even developing nations are passing us by. There is growing recognition at the federal level that things need to change, but substantial and comprehensive reform would require an act of Congress.
The much-anticipated train will make its first departure from Milan on Wednesday, September 9th. Ticket prices start at 49.99 one way for a seat in a six-person compartment, rising to 109.99 for a place in a three-bed cabin and 269.99 for a one-person booth.
The railroad industry is a logistics artery, but the companies supplying the equipment that moves freight are where the real money gets made. Locomotives, railcars, tank cars, and digital rail systems are the picks and shovels of modern logistics. These companies capture recurring revenue from manufacturing, leasing, and maintenance contracts, benefiting from regulatory replacement cycles, nearshoring tailwinds, and the simple reality that freight must move.
It's tempting to frame autonomous driving as a single leap. In public transport, adoption tends to be incremental - because the system is built for reliability, and new capabilities have to fit into daily operations without disrupting service. That is why a practical strategy is evolution, not revolution: introduce autonomy in a defined domain, learn safely in real operations, and expand capability step-by-step.
The $16 billion Gateway Tunnel project would replace a 116-year-old train tunnel that serves 200,000 commuters between New York and New Jersey each weekday. The two tubes, which carries Amtrak and New Jersey Transit trains, are crumbling after a century-plus of use and severe damage from 2012's Superstorm Sandy. New York and New Jersey Attorneys General Letitia James and Jennifer Davenport, respectively, filed the states' Feb. 3 lawsuit
Stability. Consistency. Ever-changing complexity. With language like that, deployed in separate meetings in three Asian capitals this week, government leaders forged closer ties driven in part by a figure halfway around the world: the president of the United States. And much of the time, they didn't even mention Donald Trump's name. IN BEIJING: The U.K. and Chinese leaders called Thursday for a "long-term, stable, and comprehensive strategic partnership" between their two countries. The important words are long-term and stable. The two countries committed a decade ago to building a comprehensive strategic partnership but progress has been halting at best.
The western German state North Rhine-Westphalia is proposing a new package of measures and is calling on the federal government to strengthen safety on trains ahead of a Deutsche Bahn security summit in Berlin. The state, Germany's most populous, wants to expand the use of two-person teams among train conductors. It is also urging the national government to provide legal clarity for the wearing of body cameras on public transport, which is currently voluntary.
Thanks to the development of high-speed rail and the slowdown in our capital expenditure, we aim to strengthen the growth of our results over the next decade. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation stood at €859 million, exceeding targets set and reconfirmed last year.
The sum of exports and imports between the two countries last year totalled 251.8 billion (roughly $296.6 billion), a 2.1% increase, according to Destatis. China was Germany's most important trading partner from 2016 all the way through to 2023. In 2024, the US briefly held the title. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is also set to visit China next week, where he is set to discuss trade and other topics.
