One of my latest TV obsessions is HBO Max's The Chair Company. Co-created by Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin (of SNL glory), the quirky comedy thriller stars Tim as Ron Trosper, an endearing dad and property development manager who goes down a deep, deep rabbit hole investigating a wild conspiracy theory about a chair company. Yes, really.
At the end of Save the Green Planet! the twisted 2003 Korean sci-fi black comedy directed by Jang Joon-hwan, the CEO kidnapped by a conspiracy theorist who believes him to be an alien in disguise is revealed to be... an alien in disguise. Escaping from his captor, the CEO returns to his alien spaceship and orders the destruction of Earth, having become disgusted with the "failed experiment" that is humanity.
Stone's next movie, Bugonia, is a collaboration with her director, Yorgos Lanthimos. In the film, after Stone's CEO character is kidnapped by conspiracy theorists, they shave her head in the back of a Range Rover. Lanthimos taped the head-shaving live, so there was only one shot. "It was like, 'Here we go - Emily has shaved her head,'" Jesse Plemons, who plays the conspiracist doing the shaving, told Vogue. "We better make this good!"
