The Chicago White Sox won the 2005 World Series in a four-game sweep of the Houston Astros.It was the first World Series championship for Chicago's American League franchise since 1917, and also the first since then for the city of Chicago.That was 87 years, although the sentimental outpouring did not equal what had taken place one year earlier when the Boston Red Sox won a World Series for the first time in 86 years (2004).

Former Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig, who last year withdrew from an agreement to plead guilty to lying to federal authorities in a sports gambling investigation, indicated he will fight the charges at trial after pleading not guilty Friday morning in a downtown Los Angeles courthouse.After reneging on the plea agreement, Puig, 32, now faces a charge of obstruction of justice in addition to the original charge of making false statements to federal officials, according to a superseding indictment.

Fred McGriff was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame via unanimous selection from the 16 members of the Contemporary Baseball Era committee.Players considered eligible by the committee were those deemed with making "primary contributions to the game after 1980" and must receive 75% of the vote to be elected.

Former Dodgers star Yasiel Puig has withdrawn from an agreement to plead guilty to a charge of lying to federal investigators in a sports betting probe and has changed his plea to not guilty, his representatives said Wednesday."I want to clear my name," Puig said in a statement."I never should have agreed to plead guilty to a crime I did not commit."

On Nov. 27, 1956, Brooklyn Dodgers starting pitcher Don Newcombe was named the first ever Cy Young Award winner, which was then given to the best pitcher in both leagues.Newcombe received the award after going 27-7 with 18 complete games, five shutouts, 139 strikeouts and a 3.06 ERA in his sixth season with the team.

Former Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig has agreed to plead guilty to one count of making false statements to federal law enforcement officials regarding bets he placed on sporting events with an illegal gambling operation, according to court documents.The crime carries a statutory maximum sentence of five years in federal prison.

In a way, it is the history of Cleveland baseball and all of the disrespect, and this documentary is carefully crafted around a beanball that killed a Cleveland Indians' player named Ray Chapman in 1920.The pitch that killed Chapman came from the hand of a New York Yankees pitcher, hence the title, "War On The Diamond".
