Lachlan Turczan's practice sits in the space between physics, optics, and environmental art, as he works with lasers, water, mist, and custom-built lenses to produce sculptures made entirely from light.

The Limited Space' series is built around the idea of a figure that has outgrown its space. Through exaggerated proportions and sculptural silhouettes, the body appears too large for the environment that continues to constrain it. Architectural elements and imposed barriers function as abstract limits, pressing against the figure and revealing tension through scale, weight, and posture rather than narrative.
It's really trying to extend the ability of understanding who is our family, right? Who is our brothers, sisters, and grandfathers? By allowing others to admire these incredible webs, they will become more empathetic.
Cezanne Fondation Beyeler, Basel, 25 January-25 May Paul Cezanne (1839-1906) represented a powerful inspiration for the artists who came after him; as Pablo Picasso famously put it, he was "the father of us all". Now, an ambitious exhibition focusing on the French artist's later works, when he was at the height of his powers, will open at Basel's Fondation Beyeler in January.
The six-month extension must be approved by the Visual Arts Committee, the full Arts Commission and then Recreation and Parks. Both the Feb. 18 Visual Arts Committee meeting and the full Arts Commission meeting on March 2 will provide opportunities for public comment on the proposal. A spokesperson confirmed that Recreation and Parks does not incur any costs from the installation of R-Evolution. In a presentation created by Building 180 and the Big Art Loop for next week's meeting, R-Evolution is framed as a convenient placeholder until Embarcadero Plaza and Sue Bierman Park renovations begin. Recreation and Parks currently lists that project's construction start date as "TBD."
