Elsa is a beautiful little girl, a raucous bundle of excitement and laughter. I am pleased to have seen photos of her. I know from reports that she lights up the space around her. She is happy and settled in her new family, as yet unaware of how she differs from other children. These siblings share something quite extraordinary. No one that they will meet in life is likely to understand what it is like to be a foundling, but they each know and understand.

A mother has been charged after a baby was allegedly abandoned at a Toronto church last month. Police say officers were called to the Yonge Street and Broadway Avenue area around 10:40 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21. A person who answered the phone at St. Monica's Catholic Church said the baby was found there but referred further questions to police.

Around 10 a.m., a man with a 2-year-old boy and a dog tried to steal a car in the 300 block of North Avenue 52 before running off, leaving both the child and the pet behind, police said. The victim reported that an unidentified man tried to steal his vehicle but fled on foot. Officers searched the area for the suspect but didn't find anyone. The thief abandoned the boy inside the vehicle, officials said, and the dog was found outside.

A baby boy was found dead in a black bag, ditched in a pile of leaves behind a Brooklyn public housing development Thursday, cops and law enforcement sources said. The infant - believed to be between 5 and 7 months old - was found just after 11 a.m. behind a building on East 102nd Street, within NYCHA's Bay View Houses in Canarsie, authorities and sources said.

On Dec. 12, 1989, a woman was found dead on Old Temple Bar Road off White Hills Road, just 50 miles south of Las Vegas. She had been stabbed multiple times and left nude in the desert. At the time, police were unable to identify the victim or any suspects involved in her death, but homicide investigators were able to obtain a DNA profile from the victim.
