Proposal to require mayor's approval for changes to Muni fares, parking fees withdrawn

A proposed charter amendment in San Francisco that would have given the mayor the authority to approve or reject Muni fare increases and parking meter changes has been withdrawn.
The charter amendment was withdrawn after discussions with transit advocates and a commitment from the SFMTA to halt their plan to extend parking meter hours and days of operation.
The SFMTA Board of Directors currently makes decisions about fare increases and parking meter rates, but the proposed charter amendment aimed to bring accountability to a city-elected official.
