Parents need to enforce bedtime routines to help children understand limits and ensure they go to sleep independently.
As the working year draws to a close, many of us only have one hope for the season, and that's a decent night's sleep. While not every family visit or post-Christmas getaway is going to be a trip to Rancho Relaxo, a few things can help us catch holiday kip. Pre-departure apps can be useful, so can pillow mists and thermoregulation, but when it comes to maximising rest on the road, some say less is more.
Currently have an almost 11 week old girl. While it's not quite time to start any sort of sleep scheduling / training, what I don't understand is why the universal recommendation is to get the children sleeping from 7pm to 7am. I understand that it is important for them to get that much sleep, but the specific hours don't quite make sense, especially for working parents.
I have young kids who depend on bedtime rituals to fall asleep. Yes, I've created these routines, but they work for all three, and as someone who values my own sleep, I'm not about to change them. After testing the Govee Star Light projector for several months, I've found that it makes bedtime much easier. It's more than just a night light or white noise machine -- it goes above and beyond.
We start the bedtime routine at 7 p.m., and it lasts until 8:15 p.m. or 8:30 p.m. most nights. This includes about 20 minutes of overseeing the toothbrushing and general bedtime prep, and then I spend about 20 minutes of one-on-one time with each of my three kids, in reverse age order. The kids are welcome to read in their beds until they're sleepy enough to turn off the light,
The Hatch app's bedtime rituals are noticeably better than the previous version, and there are a lot more routines to choose from. You can pick a meditation, a bedtime story, ASMR, an in-bed stretching sequence, and even a podcast to set the tone for bedtime. By using these routines, I was able to stop scrolling my phone for a good hour before drifting off to sleep.
"'Now, with the bath, make sure you fill the tub all the way up, but then crack the drain a little bit and let the water continue fizzling out because he likes to use a cup - make sure his cup is in the bath. He likes to use a cup to fill up the water and then just continue dumping the water out, filling it up, dumping it out.'"
