Sadiq Khan triggers emergency weather protocol to help rough sleepers in icy weather
The mayor of London has activated the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) for the first time in 2024 to provide emergency accommodation for people sleeping rough in freezing conditions.
Last winter, a total of 1,350 people were helped off the streets through SWEP, and 560 people have been accommodated during the first SWEP period this winter.
All London boroughs have committed to the mayor's 'In for Good' principle, ensuring that no one will be asked to leave accommodation until a support plan is in place to end their rough sleeping. [ more ]
