There is a total of £261m available for refund from Oyster cards which have not been used for a year or longer.

Money on the cards can be reclaimed regardless of how long it has been since an Oyster was last used. [ more ]

A London Assembly Member is urging Transport for London to change rules regarding unused balances on Oyster Cards to allow the money to be reinvested into the city's public transport network.

Currently, £180 million sits on Oyster cards that haven't been used in five or more years, with £57 million of that on cards unused for over 10 years.

The Liberal Democrats are calling for the balance on unused Oyster cards to be forfeited to TfL and reinvested in public transport, and for a review of campaigns to inform the public about refund options. [ more ]
