Waterloo Regional Police Service successfully located a lost woman on the Walter Bean Trail using the what3words app. Unable to communicate her location, she downloaded the app and shared her three-word address with the police. This technology, effective for five years according to WRPS dispatcher Jon Chessum, allows pinpointing locations within three square metres. The app's marketing director explained that every location globally is represented by a unique three-word address, enhancing communication during emergencies. Police emphasize its utility in aiding faster responses in critical situations.
“Every single square has an address of three random words. So I'm speaking to you today from our office, where the entrance [words are] filled, count, soap,” she said.
“One of the simplest ways to talk about location,” Chessum said, emphasizing the app’s efficiency.
