"When we moved in a year and a half ago, I already knew I wanted to update the kitchen cabinets myself with a little paint, Myriam says."
"Although, after using our kitchen for a couple months, I noticed the other things that annoyed me, she says."
"I'm especially proud of my color choice for the cabinets, Myriam says, calling Benjamin Moore's Hale Navy "the perfect moody blue.""
"The cabinets were in great condition, and the shape wasn't outdated, but the finish was discolored and very orange, Myriam explains."
Myriam Provost, an experienced furniture flipper, applied painting, hardware swapping, and carpentry skills to update a circa-2010 kitchen. She disliked the orange-toned cabinets and a backsplash that matched the floor, reducing contrast. She repainted the cabinet doors Benjamin Moore Hale Navy with help from her mother, Marie-Andrée, and replaced the pulls and knobs. The original cabinet shapes were sound but the finish had discolored. She recommends numbering door hinges to simplify reassembly after removal. She also addressed other functional issues including a two-level island and the microwave-over-range placement before upgrading the cabinetry.
