This 1970s Kitchen Got a Makeover Fit for a Pro Baker (and It's IKEA!)
"When I first bought my home, the kitchen was stuck in the '70s,"
"And something I've never seen before: a rolling pin chandelier with copper lampshades hung over the dining table,"
"a much better use of the space,"
"The entire kitchen feels more open and light,"
The 1926 bungalow's kitchen originally featured 1970s-era elements: soffits, mushroom wallpaper, copper appliances, avocado-colored linoleum, light yellow walls, speckled laminate countertops, and a rolling pin chandelier with copper lampshades. The renovation removed upper cabinets by the stove, eliminated the soffit, installed cabinets extending to the ceiling, and relocated the fridge to the side. A built-in bench replaces less efficient space, and narrow-profile countertops visually enlarge the 200-square-foot kitchen. IKEA SEKTION cabinet boxes were assembled and fitted with Pallisandro finish fronts from Mix It Modern. Linoleum was removed and the subfloor leveled, and DIY work offset costs for higher-end elements, resulting in a more open, light kitchen.
