This 161 Square-Foot Attic in Paris Boasts Budget Mahogany Panels and Versatile Furniture
"It was the kind of apartment where you discover four layers of linoleum one on top of another,"
"a dark wood that can stand up well to the passage of time and a series of tenants."
"We had so little space in the bathroom that we had to keep the sink small,"
"I dressed it up with a beautiful faucet, Matilda Goad handles, and a Zara Home mirror."
Hélène Lacombe renovated a 161-square-foot attic in Montmartre into a compact, rentable student studio while preserving natural light from the top-floor location. The space required full renovation after layers of old linoleum were removed. Laminated mahogany was selected as a durable signature material and used for panelling, kitchen cabinetry, and to conceal storage and a bathroom door. The small bathroom uses polished concrete, white tiles, and a compact sink paired with a decorative faucet, Matilda Goad handles, and a Zara Home mirror. The kitchen incorporates ceramic surfaces and converts into a dressing room, with a bench and bookcase to maximize functionality.
